SIX SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSES IN MONTORO (CORDOBA)

Six dwellings on a plot with an irregular geometry in La Vaguada de la Paloma, in Montoro (Córdoba).
The main organizing element is the private courtyard, onto which most rooms open. It acts as a filter between the interior and the urban environment, functioning as an additional open-air room. The courtyards also serve as climate regulators: they capture sunlight in winter (south and southeast orientations), while in summer a canopy protects them from overheating.
Despite adapting to different geometries, all dwellings follow the same layout: on the ground floor are the living room ,kitchen and a bathroom; on the upper floor are three bedrooms and a bathroom. The main bedroom has direct access to a private terrace that includes the laundry area.

The façade follows a binary rhythm, combining solid planes with lattice screens that protect the courtyards. This composition is enriched by varying the spacing of the slats according to privacy requirements. On the elongated street-facing windows, two operable panels allow for cross ventilation while resolving privacy in relation to the public space. French windows, both on the street façade and facing the courtyard, maintain proportions and railing types typical of traditional buildings in Montoro’s historic center.
The dwellings include underground cisterns for rainwater collection and reuse (irrigation and toilets), aerothermal systems in the laundry area, and photovoltaic panels installed on the roof.
